His life & legacy

A lasting dedication.

Moulvi Syed Anowaruddin was a philanthropist, polyglot, polymath, businessman and visionary who devoted a significant part of his life to the service of the community and the preservation of a lasting charitable legacy.

His journey with what would eventually become the Anowaruddin Wakf Estate began around 1937, when a mosque was established as an extension of his residence. The mosque came to be known as Ullubari Ghor Masjid. As the number of visitors and worshippers grew, Moulvi Syed Anowaruddin recognised the need to create a permanent institution that would serve the community beyond his own lifetime.

Wakf-Alal-Aulad and legacy

In the subsequent years, Moulvi Syed Anowaruddin also established a Wakf-Alal-Aulad for the benefit and welfare of his lineage through his son, Syed Mustafa Kaisar.

In the registered deed, he declared that the corpus of the Wakf was vested in Allah and clearly laid down the beneficiaries entitled to its usufruct. He further provided for the succession of the Mutawalli, stipulating that the appointment of the succeeding Mutawalli would be made in accordance with the instructions of the serving Mutawalli.

This structure reflected his vision of creating an enduring institution—one that would preserve the religious purpose of the property while providing for the continuity of its administration and the welfare of the designated beneficiaries.

Service as Imam and Mutawalli

Moulvi Syed Anowaruddin continued to serve the mosque as its Imam and administered the Alal-Aulad portion of the Wakf as its Mutawalli until his passing in 1965.

His dedication established the foundation upon which the subsequent generations continued to serve the Wakf.
